Summer in Egypt starts early and ends late, so a summer fragrance here isn't a seasonal extra — it is what you will wear for most of the year. The heat changes the rules: heavy, sweet scents turn cloying, and anything too light disappears. What works is a fragrance that opens fresh and has enough underneath to stay.

What to look for

• A bright opening. Citrus, bergamot, ginger, mint or pepper read as clean in the heat.
• A dry base. Ambroxan, woods, incense and light musk hold the scent without the weight of vanilla or oud.
• Moderate projection. In a warm office or a crowded car, less is more.

Five fresh fragrances for the heat

Whiteout — bergamot, pepper, ambroxan

Cold at the top, dry and mineral underneath. The one you wear without thinking about it. Whiteout is inspired by Dior Sauvage.

Riptide — citrus, ginger, incense, sandalwood

Bright for the first hour, then warmer. It works at the office and at dinner, which is why it is the safest bottle we make. Riptide is inspired by Bleu de Chanel.

Clearwater — citrus, white tea, amber

The quietest of the five: clean, close to the skin, never heavy. Clearwater is inspired by Louis Vuitton Imagination.

Wildfire — pineapple, smoked birch, musk

Fruit at the opening, smoke underneath. The one to wear when you want to be remembered. Wildfire is inspired by Creed Aventus.

Golden Hour — Sicilian fruit, musk, amber

Warmer and softer than the others, and at its best on summer evenings. Golden Hour is inspired by Xerjoff Erba Pura.

How to wear them in the heat

Two or three sprays is enough. Apply after the shower to moisturised skin, on the neck and chest rather than exposed wrists, and add one spray to your collar. For a long day, carry a small bottle instead of overapplying in the morning.
